About Nalamaa?

Last reviewed: 2026-10-31

“Nalamaa?” means “Are you well?” — the first thing we ask family. Here, we ask it and really mean it, because every person who visits is precious and worth caring for.

Our elephant stands for memory, calm strength and emotional wisdom. It is also “the elephant in the room” — the thing everyone sees but no one talks about. The elephant is also gentle and faithful. It never leaves its herd behind — and neither will we.

Why this matters

About 238,000 people in Canada speak Tamil. Many carry war-related trauma, and stigma keeps people from asking for help. Tamil-language services exist but are scattered. We bring them together in one private place.

We built Nalamaa? out of love for our community. Too many of our people have suffered in silence, believing they had to carry their pain alone. We believe no one is beyond hope, and that compassion can reach into the darkest places. This is our small way of saying: you are seen, you are loved, and you are not alone.
