What does OHIP cover?

Visits to your family doctor, psychiatrists (with a referral), hospital and some community mental health programs. Most private therapy is not covered.

How do I get a referral?

Tell your family doctor how you feel. Ask: “Can you refer me to a Tamil-speaking psychiatrist?” No family doctor? Call Health811 (811).

What if I can’t pay for therapy?

Try free options: BounceBack, community agencies like Vasantham, and ask private therapists about sliding-scale fees.

Does my job or school help?

Many employers have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with free, private sessions. Schools and colleges have counsellors at no cost.

I’m a refugee claimant. Am I covered?

The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) covers many health and some mental health services for refugees and claimants.

Who can help me find services?

Dial 211 for community services, or ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 for mental health and addiction — both free, 24/7.
